LIBERARTE unites major international poets, composers, and musicians to create a poetry anthology, musical commissions, and a series of concert events in Europe and the U.S. This ongoing project, inspired by the 70th anniversary in 2015 of the liberation of the Nazi camps, gives artistic voice to the universal longing for freedom.
LIBERARTE is created by Mark Ludwig, Executive Director of the Terezín Music Foundation, to help fulfill TMF’s mission of honoring the artists imprisoned in the Terezin concentration camp. Poetry Anthology The poems commissioned for LIBERARTE—by Rita Dove, Robert Pinsky, Yusuf Komunyakaa, Richard Blanco, and many others of equal renown—are published by Beacon Press in a new book: the 2015 anthology Liberation: New Works on Freedom from Internationally Renowned Poets, with a Foreword by Ha Jin. Musical Commissions Selected LIBERARTE poems are set to music in a series of Commissions by significant emerging composers. LIBERARTE Founder Mark Ludwig joined composers with poets of like mind and/or background, inspiring partnerships in the creation of masterful choral works. LIBERARTE Commissions are an enduring contribution to the repertoire. Concerts & Performing Artists Beginning in June, 2015, LIBERARTE Commissions have been premiering at concerts in Prague’s Spanish Synagogue, Boston’s Symphony Hall, and other major venues in the U.S. and Europe. The first performing artists are the acclaimed Coro Allegro and the celebrated Boston Children's Chorus. |
